Life is a journey
Life is a journey where we learn along the way. Whether we are open to those experiences or not, they leave a mark. My goal here is to share how you can make those experiences more meaningful through building insight and empowering others to grow through experience – the journey of life.
My story
Hi, I’m April and I love sunshine! I call it brain juice, hence the name sunshine in April. I have 25 years of experience teaching college level psychology and am here to share more about the field I love and how you can apply that information to life. My background includes studies in marriage, family and child counseling as well as health science education. Along with that, the many years of teaching a broad range of psychology topics has helped build wisdom in how to apply the content and help reflect on and improve life experiences.
Building blocks
Current: My new and improved website will host an assortment of articles ranging in topics that encourage reflections on life and many will have homework assignments in how to apply the information to build new blocks of skills and insights. I am and forever will be a teacher at heart.
Past: I started a blog in 2018 writing about my experience with breast cancer and made it through the chemo stage. It became too much at the time to finish writing about the journey as it was a traumatic and life changing experience. I may be far enough past that – so far with a clean bill of health or ‘no evidence of disease (NED)’ – to revisit that topic either here in the blog, or why not throw it out there that maybe I’ll write a book. Dream big! In 2023, I started writing about a cross country solo health journey, but only made one post – the reasons are mostly private, but again, I do plan to add more about that needed life journey.
Future: Goals and dreams is to build on this sharing of experience through adding videos, consultation work and speaking engagements. One step at a time and getting started can be the hardest. I am committed to making this the best experience possible for all who visit my corner of the world.
A special thank you to Amanda Hitzemann, website designer, for her help and guidance!
